5 of the latest safety features you need your car to have.
How to put safety first in your next Hyundai?
Thankfully, Hyundai is always searching for new ways to make driving not only more enjoyable, but safer too. Every day, our researchers are creating better, stronger and more technologically advanced cars; cars that minimise our customers’ risks on the road.
Yes, most cars have the basics these days – airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction control and so on – but what can you expect in the newer, safer breed of car?
SAFE EXIT ASSIST (SEA)
Safe Exit Assist is set to become one of the most sought-after car safety features for anyone with kids. The system detects vehicles approaching from the rear and alerts the driver that it may be dangerous for them and passengers exiting the vehicle, with an audible alert and visual warning on the dashboard. If the driver attempts to deactivate the child safety lock during this time, the SEA system will intervene and prevent the door from being unlocked. Best of all, you’ll find this essential safety feature in the latest Hyundai Santa Fe* SUV.

REAR-VIEW CAMERA
Rear-view cameras are a must for safety-conscious drivers and the technology keeps getting better and better. A rear-view camera is important for two very big reasons: kids and pets. With a wide-angle rear view camera lens, drivers can easily see everything on the drive or road behind them while reversing – a feature that makes parking a breeze and could even save lives. And good news, rear-view cameras are standard on all the latest Hyundai models.
BLIND SPOT DETECTION
Remember those horrible blind spots that used to be the bane of drivers everywhere? A blind spot could swallow up and hide an entire car as it crept up in another lane and it was a real danger; we almost had to have swivel heads to deal with it! Not anymore. Hyundai blind spot detection uses ultrasonic or radar detection to give you 180-degree coverage around your vehicle and instant alerts if there is any impending risk.
AUTONOMOUS EMERGENCY BRAKING
Imagine you’re driving late at night and you’re feeling tired. In fact, you shouldn’t be driving at all and you start falling asleep at the wheel. Luckily, instead of careering onwards, your car automatically senses impending danger and brakes for you. That’s Autonomous Emergency Braking, a wonderful new safety feature currently being introduced across selected Hyundai models. This reassuring new feature has even been shown to react faster to a potential collision than a driver’s foot. And if half a second can avoid a calamity, we’re all for it.
SMART CRUISE CONTROL
Standard cruise control features are fine for maintaining a consistent open road speed. But what happens if the car in front slows down? How quickly will we react if we’ve gone into cruise mode ourselves? The latest Hyundai models now come with a whole new dimension in cruise control safety – Smart Cruise Control – a system that uses radar technology to sense if the car ahead has slowed down or stopped. Smart Cruise Control then automatically slows or stops your vehicle.
And those are just a few of the latest safety features you can enjoy with a new Hyundai! There are loads of others, including:
- Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA): Detects dangerous and sudden braking by the car ahead or pedestrians on the road.
- Lane Keeping Assist (LKA): Provides steering intervention to help your vehicle stay in the centre of the lane.
- Rear Occupant Alert (ROA): Detects whether a child has been left in the back seat of a car and either alerts the driver upon leaving the vehicle, or warns passers-by via honking the horn and flashing the lights.
- Surround View Monitor (SVM): Gives the driver a 360-degree bird’s eye view of the vehicle’s surroundings, making it easier to park in tight spaces.
- Advanced Smart Parking Assist System (ASPAS): Safely steers the car in and out of parking spots.
