Enjoy your drive and stay safe on the road this Christmas. Behind the 12 doors of Christmas you’ll find all sorts of fun road trip game suggestions. Plus there are some important safety tips that’ll help you safely get to where you’re going these holidays.

Behind each of the 12 doors of Christmas, you'll discover a range of simple checks you can do without putting your car through a service.

1. Check your windshield washer levels.

A clean windscreen improves your safety on long trips, particularly in sunset or low light conditions. Fill the bottle up with clean water and ‘windscreen washer liquid,’ available from your local Hyundai dealer.

4. Hyundai Spotto (Passengers only!).

One point for every Hyundai model you spot before anyone else in the car. Santa Fe, Tucson, Kona, Venue, IONIQ, i30, Veloster, Accent, Sonata.

Watch out though, as there is one point lost for incorrect nominations.

2. Licence plate game.

One person reads out a 3-letter sequence on a passing number plate. The first person to create a 3-word phrase from the acronym gets a point. Increase the difficulty with a theme (eg. if the theme is Christmas, ‘RNR” could be Red Nosed Reindeer).

3. Check your headlights and brake lights.

Take some time to check all your lights are working before a trip, particularly brake and reversing lights. Park near a wall so you can see the lights flash or ask a friend to assist and confirm lights are working as they walk around your vehicle.

5. Check your windscreen wipers.

Ensure your windscreen wipers are ready for any wet weather. If they’re cracked, scraping or causing arc-shaped streaks, they may need replacing. You can easily replace the rubber inserts at your local Hyundai dealer.

6. Hyundai colour bingo (passengers only).

The first person to get a full set of Hyundai cars in 5 nominated colours wins. You have to spot a black, blue, green, red, and white of any Hyundai model. This game will test your reaction time as only the first person to call it gets the points.

7. Check your tyres and spare wheel.

Driving with the right pressure improves handling, safety and fuel economy. You’ll find the tyre pressure recommendation on the plate inside the door frame, as well as in your vehicle's owners manual. It’s also important you check the tread for wear and replace any tyres where the tread is less than 1.5mm deep.

8. Categories (includes driver).

One person picks a category, and each person in the car then takes it in turns to name something else in that category until someone can’t.

Categories could include: Vegetables, shoe brands, colours, airlines, dog breeds, capital cities, rivers, metals, Olympic sports, ball sports.

9. Plan your trip and take breaks.

Plan to stop off at new or interesting places to give the whole family a break every couple of hours.

Driver fatigue isn’t worth the risk (which makes Hyundai’s Driver Attention Warning system such an important feature as it will give an alert if it senses fatigue or distraction). During the holiday season, look out for the temporary ‘Driver Reviver’ rest stops manned by volunteers with free tea and coffee.

12. Rhyme.

One person picks a word and the next says something that rhymes with it. If you can’t come up with one within 5 seconds, you’re out.

Alternatively, play this game with a twist where the person with the fewest points at the end wins.

10. I SPY.

No road trip is complete without a classic game of I Spy. Keeping with the original rules of the game, it can be an object in the car, a person, or something outside the car.

11. Check your Roadside Support.
