Kicking goals for kids.
Match day partner Hyundai Motor Company Australia teamed up with Carlton Football Club (Blues) and the Brisbane Lions Football Club (Lions) to support Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia on Saturday, 24th April at Marvel Stadium, Victoria. For every goal kicked by either team, Hyundai donated $500[H1] to the clubs respective Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia Chapter. Plus, the Blues also donated a further $500 for every goal they scored to the Vic/Tas Chapter!
In this very special match, a money can’t buy experience was granted to Zac Minty, who performed the coin toss for the game. Zac, 10 years old, was introduced to us through our Hyundai Help for Kids partner Little Wings. Zac lives in Canberra with his family and has been flying with Little Wings for 18 months, he is a huge Carlton fan. Zac was originally diagnosed with cancer of the eye, undergoing chemo at The Children’s Hospital Westmead, Sydney and went into remission. However, in November 2020 they found another tumor in the same eye and this resulted in the eye being completely removed just before Christmas. It has been a very difficult few months for Zac and his family. This was one unforgettable gift that has kept him focused and positive. Zac & his family were flown to and from Melbourne via Little Wings.
In addition to hosting Zac and his family on the day, Hyundai Help for Kids hosted guests from Ronald McDonald House Charities Victoria & Tasmania Chapter with all special guests forming the guard of honor. Some other very exciting elements of the match were the Match Ball handover by a child from the Ronald McDonald House Charities Victoria and Tasmania Chapter, Kicking Goals for Kids donation tally featured on the big screen throughout the match and customized Hyundai Help for Kids branded chair slips amongst other features.
Ahead of this match day, Hyundai Help for Kids CSR Committee Member and Director of Sales, Gavin Donaldson, was interviewed about our Kicking Goals for Kids activation on the SEN1116 Radio program by Gerard Whateley which you can listen to here. The Whateley program also generously aired a Live Read audio about the match, which helped to raise further awareness about the event.
